About the Design
"Petrichor" is the word for the smell of rain on dry earth. The wildflowers in California are all the more breath-taking for the briefness of their stay, and the harshness of the land in which they grow.
I spent the month of May in the Angeles National forest capturing these flowers as they bloomed. These are some of my favorite May wildflowers. Done in watercolor and gouache on brown cotton rag paper, these are real nature studies done from life, in the open air.
